documenting the work and activities of an artist + print freak.

New work, mostly.

"Not lost but searching"

monotype and thread, aprox. 13"x18"

Here’s what I’ve been up to over the past week. The monotyped rectangular strips are held together by small single stitches. Some of them are reworked strips that were printed on two years ago but never used since I wasn’t entirely satisfied with them. Others are completely new and freshly printed.

It isn’t the first time I’ve worked in pieces like this but it has been a while and I’m excited to return to this process. The first time was while I was still working at the printmaking studio of SCU. Clearing out flat files I realized we had more discarded scraps than we could possibly store to use as draw downs or paper fingers. Taking the excess strips, I started inking up large plexi-glas plates to create drippy patterns and washed out textures and then printed batches of these strips on each plate. Some of them I used right away and others were stored away until I pulled them out again this summer in hope that the constant sight of them would eventually inspire a purpose.

The final printed layers on the strips in this piece have all been printed by hand with my trusty spoon from my worktable's glass top which I think has given some great variety to the many edges and to the quality of the printed marks over all.
That's all for now. Thanks for scrolling through!
